The picture of biking Copenhageners is known worldwide, and it has become part of the branding of Copenhagen through blogs such as “Cycle chic”, “Copenhagenize” and Facebook sites like “Bike med”. Danish biking culture is undoubtedly a positive, green brand – but what’s the story?
“Eine Stadt fährt Rad” is an exhibition project framing a range of dialogue events. The project communicates several aspects of Danish bike culture to a German audience at the same time as aiming to engage in dialogue with German experts, organisations and trendsetters about the opportunities for bike-friendly urban development and bike tourism.
Based on the photo exhibition, ”Monumental Motion – A Cycling Life in the Capital of Denmark”, produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Cycle Chic, Copenhagenize and Mikael Colville-Andersen, the exhibition takes the audience on a ride throughout Danish bike culture. Innovative bike design and design solutions from Danish manufacturers will have a separate scene for the theme of urban development. With the exhibition as a frame, this theme will unfold with a focus on best practice for vulnerable road users in collaboration with the Municipality of Copenhagen.
Today, Berlin too is on the top 20 list of the world’s bike-friendly cities, and that is one of the main reasons why Danish bike culture should be brought into play!
Children are welcome: a track will be arranged on the terrace of the common house of the Nordic embassies, and if it should rain you can take a seat on one of the Christiania bikes and watch the Danish animation “Cykelmyggen”!
