The conference is the 3rd HIV in Europe conference and will mark five years of the HIV in Europe Initiative which has the overall objective of ensuring HIV positive patients access to care earlier than is currently the case. Today 30-50% of Europeans living with HIV/AIDS are unaware of their status and approximately 50% of them present late for care. The initiative provides a European platform for the exchange of knowledge and activities to improve early diagnosis and earlier care of HIV across Europe. The initiative is directed by an independent group of experts with representation from civil society, policy makers, health professionals and European public health institutions. The conference is supported by the European Commission.
