After six months as President of the Council, the Danish Government has today released a publication of the facts and results of the Presidency.
Today the European Heads of Governments agreed on the location of the Unified Patent Court. This ends more than 30 years of negotiations on the European Patent Reform. In the future patent applications should only be filled once to be applicable in all the 25 EU member states who are participants in the enhanced co-operation. This will make it both easier and cheaper for European businesses to protect their patents in Europe.
The Danish EU Presidency has reached an agreement about a European label for venture capital and social entrepreneurship funds in the EU. Thereby the Council and the European Parliament has agreed on two key initiatives in the Single Market Act; initiatives which can abate the current financing challenges for especially innovative and newly established companies in the EU.
The EU has taken one step further in the fight against cybercrime. The European Parliament and the Council have agreed on new minimum rules concerning the definitions and sanctions of criminal offences in the area of cybercrime. The file has been a priority for the Danish EU Presidency who in close cooperation with the European Commission and the European Par-liament has worked hard to achieve consensus on the matter.
On 26-27 June 2012 the Danish EU Presidency and the European Commission will host a conference in Copenhagen, concerning traffic safety.
