Copenhagen University Choir was founded in 1839, and is thus the oldest amateur choir in Denmark. The choir is true to the tradition of being a pure male choir, but they are very proud to have HM Queen Margrethe II as an honorary member. Stockholm Academic Male Choir was founded in 1905 and HM King Carl WVI Gustaf is patron of the choir. The tradition with male choir among the academic institutions is strong (unique) in Scandinavia and is dated back to the early 1800.
In 2012 the two choirs can celebrate the 90-anniversary of their first meeting in Stockholm in 1922 and this is done lawfully with a blast of a concert where a total strength of nearly 100 Danish and Swedish male voices will sound. The current joint concert between The Copenhagen University Choir and Stockholm Academic Male Choir is a result of recent years fruitful cooperation between the choirs and the repertoire will include both new and traditional Nordic songs.
