Alcohol dependence is a chronic brain disease in Europe. At this policy debate, Professor Jürgen Rehm from Dresden University will present for the first time the results of extensive research comparing alcohol consumption patterns, alcohol dependence and the burden of disease across the European Union. The launch of this new data will provide a welcome evidence base for discussing the current status of European and international commitments regarding excessive consumption of alcohol.
