Nordic Youth Meeting

23.06.2012  -  30.06.2012

The Nordic young people’s meeting, which is now taking place for the fourth time, gathers youngsters from 10 Nordic countries. The purpose of the meeting between the young people is to promote their tolerance towards, and communication with, the other Nordic countries. This is done by introducing the youngsters to the languages and cultures of the Nordic countries.

Aalborg Ungdomsskole, which arranged the first meeting between young people from Nordic countries back in 2009, has taken the initiative to let the youth of the Nordic countries meet. The gathering is arranged every year – each time in a different Nordic country. Meetings have taken place in Finland and Sweden in former years, and this year the meeting is to take place in Lithuania.

50 young people aged 14-18 will gather for a week’s camping, and will be joined by camp leaders from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, the north-western part of Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The event will take place in the Troškūnai monastery’s youth centre. The youngsters will be presented with a versatile introduction to Lithuania – its nature, culture and history. They will experience this during hiking trips and creative workshops arranged by the camp leaders.

With a starting point in the Nordic countries’ prior experience, the camp will be based on promoting voluntary work and a democratic spirit among the young people.

The meeting is sponsored by NORDBUK.
