The National Museum in Warsaw opens up the Jewellery Box and exhibits Danish jewellery

12.01.2012  -  04.03.2012

Explore the Danish Jewellery Box Collection. The Jewellery Box Collection includes examples of the finest and most interesting artistic jewellery created by some of Denmark's most prominent jewellers.

The Jewellery Box is a collection consisting of about 170 pieces of jewellery that have been purchased and assembled by the Danish Arts Foundation. Since 1978, the Committee for Crafts and Design has focused on the specific artistic expression that jewellery contains, and  there has been a desire to create a collection of the most interesting artistic Danish jewellery.

The jewellery pieces are miniature works of art, characterised by the fact that they relate to the body and only find their true expression  when worn. This characteristic makes jewellery differ fundamentally from  many other arts that often relate to buildings and spaces. For this reason the Jewellery Box Collection is unique, and shows a side of Danish artistic activity which is not always given the recognition it deserves.
