Three big events for children's literature and Hans Christian Andersen will take place in Spain in 2012.
The International Day of Children's and Youth Literature is held every year on Andersen's birthday on April 2nd. The day will be celebrated in collaboration with Spanish literary institutions. The event takes place in Cadiz in 2012, when the city is the Ibero-American Capital of Culture. The occasion is also marks the 200th anniversary of the first liberal Spanish constitution.
The 150th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen's travel to Spain in 1862 will be celebrated with the display of a Danish Hans Christian Andersen exhibition together with a Spanish exhibition on his travels to several Spanish cities. A plaque will be erected on the house in Cadiz where Hans Christian Andersen lived during his stay in the city.
At the school of design in Barcelona, the Danish Arts Council’s impressive exhibition "The illustrated children's book" will be shown with the participation of a Danish illustrator. A variety of original illustrations by the best Danish children's book illustrators currently working in Denmark will be on display.
