In cooperation with the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University and the European Commission the Danish EU Presidency hosts a lecture series that focuses on some of the challenges Europe is facing today. Each lecture has a theme on which two prominent EU politicians - one from Denmark and one from Europe - will relate to in an introduction to a debate. Afterwards the audience is invited to participate in the debate.

The second lecture focuses on the EU's Economy. Join us when Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble (GER) and Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior Margrethe Vestager (DK) discuss the current state of European welfare in relation to the weakened European economies.

Can the Euro survive the economic turmoil in Greece, Spain and Italy? To what extend will the richer countries accept the burden of debt? Will the European welfare state survive under the current economic conditions? And will the present crisis result in a division between the rich in the North and the poor in the South?

Professor David Dreyer Lassen from the University of Copenhagen will give a short introduction to the European economies. The speeches are followed by a debate with the audience.
