European Commissioner Connie Hedegaard and the Danish EU Presidency have invited ministers from the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and a number of Latin American countries to talks in Brussels on 7-8 May. This Informal Roundtable will build on the important breakthrough achieved at the 2011 Durban climate conference and explore further cooperation.
The determined efforts by these countries, the European Union and South Africa played a key role in Durban's successful outcome. Continued cooperation with these countries will be essential to ensure future success in international fora such as the UN climate change convention and the Rio+20 summit on sustainable development on 20-22 June.
The visiting ministers will also meet with the EU Commissioner for Environment, Janez Potočnik, and the Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, to identify potential common priorities and goals for the Rio+20 summit.
From the Danish EU Presidency the following ministers will attend: Minister for Climate, Energy and Building, Martin Lidegaard, Minister for the Environment, Ida Auken, and Minister for Development Cooperation, Christian Friis Bach.
