Debating the Future of Europe

27-03-2012 13:14:00

What is the future of Europe? The Danish Newspaper Politiken has launched an essay series to debate on this question

To stimulate the debate about the challenges facing Europe the Danish newspaper Politiken has invited a number of prominent European opinion leaders to write an essay on Europe. Also, a series of debates with some of the contributors will be held in cooperation with the Danish Presidency of the Council.

During the first half of 2012, when Denmark chairs the EU Council of Ministers, one contributor from each EU Member State will write an essay on Europe for Politiken. The contributors will typically be writers, commentators or analysts, and they are selected by Politiken’s editorial staff, which has the full editorial responsibility for the series.

The contributions are published regularly on politiken.dk where they can be read in both Danish and the original language. Together, the many essays will draw a snapshot of Europe in a period when Europe and the EU are facing historic challenges.

In the blue column to the right you can find a list of all published essays.

Debates at the House of Politiken

In connection with the essay series a number of debates will be held in Politiken's lecture hall in Copenhagen during the Presidency period. The first event took place on Monday 27th February with participation of Gazi Kapplani from Greece and Jose Torreblanca from Spain.

The second event was held the 26th of April with the participation of Martin Simecka from Slovakia and Marju Lauristin from Estonia.
