On the 26th and 27th of January 2012 the informal Council meeting on Justice and Home Affairs (RIA) will be held in the Bella Center, Copenhagen.
More than 50 of the EU ministers on the area will be participating along with the Commissioner for Home Affairs, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees as well as a number of EU agencies.
At the informal Council meeting the following topics will inter alia be on the agenda:
- A political discussion of the EU’s work against terrorism and cross-border criminal activities. The topics up for discussion will include, in particular, the question of financing a European system making it possible to exchange passenger information (the PNR system).
- A discussion of the continued work in relation to the recognition and execution of court decisions within civil and commercial law.
- EU cooperation on criminal law including on the determination of provisions on penalties in EU law and questions regarding transfer of convicts to serve sentences in their home countries.
- The question regarding solidarity between EU Member States in relation to handling the migration pressure in Europe.
On both days of the meeting, press conferences will be arranged after the discussions in the Council. Additionally, a press release with the main conclusions from the discussions at the meeting will be issued after the end of the meeting on 27 January.
The press conferences will be held in Bella Center and are open to all journalists accredited for the meeting.
The press conferences will furthermore be transmitted in CCTV and via the Presidency web site. The Danish Presidency will supply photos and host broadcast from all the informal Council meetings in Denmark.
The members of the press can apply to be accredited for individual meetings or for the entire Presidency between 1st of January 1 2012 and 30th of June 2012.
