The Presidency debriefs in the European Parliament’s committees

18-06-2012 23:15:00

The Danish Presidency ends in a few weeks. As an established tradition, the Presidency will debrief the European Parliament on the results obtained during the presidency. In the week to come, six Danish ministers will go to the European Parliament. The briefings will take place as part of the committee’s ordinary meetings.

Danish Minister for European Affairs, Nicolai Wammen, says:

From the outset, the Danish Presidency was about doing the solid hard work that will bring EU further. Through the last six months, we have been striving to get both concrete results and make good progress on some of the larger and more important issues. We have shown that the EU functions in times of crises and we have made our contribution to bringing Europe out the crisis. In close cooperation with the European Parliament we have achieved good results. The cooperation between the European Parliament, the Commission and the Council represents a still more efficient core of the EU cooperation and to this I pay tribute. For the Danish Presidency one of the most significant results is the Energy Efficiency Directive, which was adopted last week after tough negotiations in the Council and the Parliament. This Directive will lead to the creation of many new jobs in Europe and at the same time cement Europe as a pioneer region in the field of green growth.”
