Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt participates on 28-29 June in the last meeting of EU Heads of State and Government during the Danish Presidency.
The purpose of the meeting is to adopt a growth and jobs pact and discuss the economic situation in the EU. Additionally, there will be a discussion of the framework for EU’s multiannual budget. Finally, the President of the European Council has issued a report on how the Economic and Monetary Union can be developed. The European Council will have a first discussion of the report.
Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt says:
"I look forward to participate in the meeting of the European Council, which is the last summit during our Presidency. The Danish Presidency has primarily been about creating growth and new jobs. I am therefore very pleased that we at the end of our Presidency can adopt a pact that includes a large number of concrete actions to promote growth and create new jobs in Europe."
Prior to the meeting of the European Council the Prime Minister will give a speech at the conference "European Summit for Government Transformation", organized by the think tank Lisbon Council on 27 June in Brussels.
